Trader Joe's Opens First Store In Palm Beach County, Florida

Die-hard Trader Joe’s fans and first-timers lined up around the outside of the new Wellington, FL, location early this morning for the 8 a.m. opening. A group of about 20 Trader Joe’s “Mates” and “Crew Members” welcomed guests with colorful Hawaiian leis as the doors opened and people made their way cheering down the receiving line of employees.

The intimate 12,500-square-feet market hosts more than 3,000 (80 percent of the store’s inventory) eccentric, private-label items such as roasted coconut chips and rosemary marcona almonds.

Produce, dairy, cheese, meat and wine selections line the walls of the store, which is decorated in signature Trader Joe’s Hawaiian- and nautical-themed style. The in-store radio amplifies the crowds’ energy with tunes by The Beatles, Bob Marley, and The Beach Boys.

Prices also generate happy thoughts and smiles from shoppers. For example, private label 18-ounce clamshells of blueberries are $6.99 each; 14-ounce fresh-cut vegetable trays are $2.99 each; and 8-ounce packs of dried pineapple rings are $3.99.

Additional Palm Beach County locations are slotted to open in Palm Beach Gardens, Delray Beach and Boca Raton this fall.
