COOS BAY, Ore. — The annual Dungeness crab harvest on the Oregon coast was down a bit from last year but higher prices made it the second-most valuable crab season in state history.
The Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission says the 325-boat fleet landed more than 21 million pounds of the crabs in the nine-month season that ended Sunday. The average annual harvest over the past 30years is about 12 million pounds.
The commission says this year's harvest is worth nearly $49 million to crabbers, second only to the record harvest in 2005 when crabbers landed nearly 34 million pounds worth $53 million.
