Australis & The Barramundi: Giving Turners Falls, MA Its Back To The Future Moment

TURNERS FALLS, Mass — The village of Turners Falls has had a long history of commercial fishing dating back to the early 1700′s when Atlantic Salmon was a major source of commerce.

But Turners Falls signature dam, built in 1798, was the beginning of the end of salmon fishing along the tributaries of the Connecticut River.

Most people don’t know the rich history of Turners Falls. Site of the states first ‘Big Dig’ when the falls were expanded to supply more hydroelectric power, Turners Falls is now leading the way in the world of Aquaculture. All thanks to a tasty fish, with a funny sounding name.
