Deal On Lobster Prices Sought By Lobster Council Of Canada

YARMOUTH Some big issues in the lobster industry need to be settled this year, says the Lobster Council of Canada.

One of them is establishing a fixed minimum price paid to fishermen for their catch, as part of some sort of price regulation.

The council, working with industry representatives, want to find a collaborative way to set a price with dealers and buyers that will essentially eliminate all the tension and frustration that is part of the start of each new lobster season, said Geoff Irvine, the councils chief executive officer.

“Theres a couple of places now where there is a minimum price pre-negotiated,” he said Tuesday.
