Representatives of the Global Aquaculture Alliance, the world’s leading standards-setting organization for farmed seafood, will visit Santiago, Chile, June 20-23 to promote the upcoming GOAL 2011 conference on aquaculture seafood. The conference is co-hosted by the Chilean Undersecretariat for Fisheries and SalmonChile, and sponsored by ProChile and a variety of international companies.
GAA Editor and Development Manager Darryl Jory will join Assistant Director Sally Krueger for the trip to encourage participation in GOAL 2011 by members of Chile’s aquaculture and investment sectors. With assistance from Adolfo Alvial Consultancies, the two will also provide information on the program and other elements of the conference.
GOAL is an annual event that provides seafood and aquaculture business leaders with the latest information on the farmed seafood value chain through summaries of supply data for shrimp and fish, and concise reviews of leading international markets. Panel discussions address issues, project trends and identify opportunities.
In its first appearance in the Southern Hemisphere, GOAL 2011 will be held November 6-9 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Santiago. The GOAL 2011 program will highlight the host country, whose aquaculture industry is transforming itself to achieve greater sustainability and restore its position as a top salmon producer. The GOAL 2011 schedule will include options to tour aquaculture farms and other destinations.
Under the theme of “Double in a Decade – Responsibly,” GOAL 2011 will consider the actions that aquaculturists must take to answer the industry’s approaching need to quickly multiply seafood production in response to Asia’s rapidly growing middle class.
How will existing seafood facilities generate more product? Will new culture areas be developed? Will advances in technology once again come to our rescue? And how can this be accomplished responsibly?
A special investor session will examine opportunities and challenges in financing aquaculture’s pending expansion. Keynote speaker Gorjan Nikolik of Rabobank International will be joined by a panel composed of bankers, private investors and representatives of aquaculture operations that have successfully raised capital in the past.
Another important session on Chile’s recovery from the effects of an outbreak of infectious salmon anemia (ISA) will be presented by Adolfo Alvial. His comments will explain the infrastructure and policy changes made at both industry and government levels to stop the disease and put Chilean aquaculture back on track.
Many consider GOAL 2011 “the place to be” for leaders of the seafood and agriculture industries. The attendees will include over 300 top seafood marketers, retailers, producers, processors and investors. Contact the GAA office for details on discounts for attendees from Chile.
