Planning Revived For Lobster Processing Plant In St. George, Maine

St. George selectmen earlier this week voted unanimously to approve a letter of intent to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for Sea Hag Seafood, the company that wants to redevelop the former Great Eastern Mussel Farm into a lobster processing plant.

The company, under the management of 22-year-old Tenants Harbor resident Kyle Murdock, put its project on hold last year after financing fell through. In a phone interview on Monday, Murdock says he switched gears and began lobstering on Monhegan, working on the project when he could. Sea Hag had secured the plant and done some cleanup in the facility, but without further financing could not fix up existing equipment or buy new gear.

According to St. George Town Manager John Falla, last year the town of St. George had sent a letter of intent to apply for a CDBG to the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development, but it didn't move forward.
