Sarasota Business Brings Wild Alaskan Seafood To Region

LAKEWOOD RANCH — Eric Donaldson understands today's consumer is more conscious about the food they put into their bodies.

That's why Donaldson may have found a niche within the Manatee-Sarasota food market by importing wild Alaskan salmon and weathervane scallops.

"A lot of consumers today realize there is a difference between wild fish and farmed fish," he said. "They don't want farm-raised fish because of what goes into it. It's orange because of the dye they put in the water. This fish is this color because of what it eats."

Donaldson currently controls the east coast operations for The Crab Broker, an Alaskan king crab supply company. This past November, however, he started a new business, Cypress Creek Wild Alaskan Salmon, which he operates with his wife, Jennifer, from their home in Sarasota.
