New Jersey Department of Agriculture Kicks Off Jersey Fresh Season

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher and other state and local officials today kicked off the Jersey Fresh season by visiting Walker Brothers Inc., in Salem County, which grows asparagus as well as other crops, and is known for sending its asparagus seeds across the globe. Jersey Fresh items are now appearing in farmers markets and stores around the state.

Applications for 2022 Farm to School Award and Recognition Program Available

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today announced the 2022 Jersey Fresh Farm to School Recognition and Award program to find the top school in the state participating in Farm to School activities. The program also will recognize schools that work with farmers and the community to ensure students have access to healthy Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables in their school cafeterias and teach about agriculture through growing school gardens.

Hunterdon County Vineyard Owner New Jersey’s 2022 Outstanding Young Farmer

Mike Beneduce Jr., a Hunterdon County vineyard and winery owner, has been chosen as New Jersey’s 2022 Outstanding Young Farmer by the New Jersey State Board of Agriculture. Beneduce and his wife, Corey, were also one of eight finalists for the 2022 National Outstanding Young Farmer Award and recently attended the National Outstanding Young Farmer Congress in Hilton Head, S.C.

NJ Department of Agriculture Seeks Agencies to Sponsor Meals for Summer Nutrition Program

 New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas H. Fisher today encouraged organizations to help provide nutritious meals to children during the summer months through the Department’s Summer Food Service Program.

NJ Department of Agriculture to Highlight Farmers Participating in Farm to School Activities

New Jersey Secretary of Agriculture Douglas Fisher announced registration has begun for farmers wishing to participate in the Jersey Fresh Farm to School Farmer Recognition Award. The Recognition Award is an opportunity for farmers to highlight their Farm to School efforts and provide them with resources to help feature their Jersey Fresh produce in local school meals.
