It's not unusual for Corbion employees to focus on food – the company is an industry leader in food ingredients. However, a typical day doesn't usually involve packing more than 8,000 boxes to help feed the hungry during the holidays. Corbion's annual "Pack It Up for Harvesters" event was held Wednesday, Oct. 8, at Corbion's distribution facility in Grandview, Mo.
Harvesters distributes more than 43 million pounds of food and household products to 26 counties in Kansas and Missouri. To achieve their goals, it takes advanced warehousing operations to collect and distribute that much food – to do so they need volunteers to assist in sorting and repackaging donated items.
More than 100 Corbion employees volunteered for Harvesters this year and, according to Harvesters, every one of them makes a difference. As the Harvesters' website notes, "We could not feed 141,500 people every month without the dedication and service of our volunteers. Hours spent sorting food, assisting at special events or providing professional service equate to the work of an additional 96 full-time employees!"
