U.S. Rep. Farr Leads On U.S.-Colombia Trade Pact

U.S. Rep. Sam Farr, D-Carmel, is lead Democratic sponsor of the agreement in the House, which was introduced on the House floor last week. House Majority Leader Eric Cantor of Virginia is the lead Republican sponsor. The value of all California goods exported there reached $409 million in 2010, according to the California Chamber of Commerce. But another key economic interest in the region — cut flower growers — are not enthusiastic. Colombia is a major exporter of cut flowers into the US, but there is little market for California flowers in its market.
