New York Beef Industry Council Hosts Veal/Dairy Tour 2012

The New York Beef Industry Council (NYBIC) once again invited more than 50 industry influencers to an educational veal/dairy tour of New York State. The dynamics of this year’s tour was different than the tour of 2010 as this year’s attendees were a mix of chef educators and their students. Six different culinary schools, along with food service, retail, dietitians and media, were present for a farm-to-fork look at the veal and dairy industries.

Shannon and Eric Duffy of Tender Belly Bacon aren’t the only native Iowans bringing bacon to Colorado. Brooks Reynolds of Des Moines, IA is doing his part. Reynolds is president and chairman of the Blue Ribbon Bacon Festival, the world’s premier bacon festival. Held in Des Moines, Iowa, the festival offers a rich bacon educational lecture series and more bacon than a person could ever dream.

The industry is celebrating 25 years of commitment to checkoff-funded Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) programs by releasing a highlight video. Original advisory board members such as Ran Smith, Dr. Gary Cowman, Dr. Dee Griffin and others take viewers on a historical walk though the creation of the BQA program.

The Oneida Indian Nation now is in the sausage business, a sign of its influence stretching beyond the region. On Monday, the Nation and Dallas-based Zaccanelli Food Group announced the multimillion dollar purchase of the Syracuse-based Hofmann Sausage Co.
