VERONA — The Oneida Indian Nation now is in the sausage business, a sign of its influence stretching beyond the region.
On Monday, the Nation and Dallas-based Zaccanelli Food Group announced the multimillion dollar purchase of the Syracuse-based Hofmann Sausage Co.
The Nation is the lead investor in the 133-year-old family company, which marks a new diversification for Oneida Nation Enterprises, which operates Turning Stone Resort Casino.
“This is really the first investment outside of our core businesses,” said Ray Halbritter, Nation representative and CEO of Oneida Nation Enterprises. “This investment also diversifies our Nation’s business interest, our financial interest, which adds to stability economically, particularly here in Upstate New York.”
