The dainty, colorful blooms that Tara Kolla grows on the grounds of her Silver Lake Farms are not certified organic, but they've never been exposed to chemicals of any kind.
Compost, teas and beneficial insects are her M.O.
"We're beyond organic," she says. "To be very specific, I'm a soil food-web devotee. My new gardening tool is a microscope."
Soil biology? Locally grown? Chalk it up to the "slow flower" movement, a small but unique niche in the cut-flower industry that's now starting to blossom.
