Taster's Choice is starting off the new year with an old standby – cream cheese.
Slathered on bagels and toast, whipped into dips and icings, baked with vegetables and potatoes, the possibilities are endless for this dairy favorite.
So, at the risk of squashing those resolutions to eat healthier in 2012, we tested nine full-fat versions of cream cheese. All came in plastic tubs and were served with plain bagels on the side.
The year's first Taster's Choice champ is 365 ($1.99 for 8 ounces at Whole Foods). This cheese creamed the competition with its "good dairy flavor" and "tangy finish." "Rich, dense and smooth," this was simply a "very good" "classic cream cheese." Four tasters would buy this brand and the fifth might.
