POINT REYES STATION, Calif. — The Bay Area has changed a lot in the past 100 years, but not around Point Reyes.
The area looks similar to when Bob Giacomini’s grandfather opened a dairy farm in Petaluma around 1900.
“He had about 10 cows, 400 to 500 chickens and raised six kids,” said Giacomini, whose father Waldo Giacomini opened his own dairy farm in Point Reyes in 1938.

The week brought back the biennial World Championship Cheese Contest (WCCC), held in Madison, Wisconsin. A total of 25 countries and 32 US states were represented in the 2024 contest. With an impressive 84 Best of Class finishes, American cheesemakers earned the highest number of gold medals. This year 3,302 entries from around the world competed across 142 categories. From March 5-7th, a team of 53 internationally renowned dairy experts from 19 nations evaluated cheese, butter and yogurt through visual inspection and sensory evaluation. …
Throughout the month of May, every wedge of cheese purchased at www.pointreyescheese.com will generate a donation of an equal wedge to the California Association of Food Banks. The donation, in pounds of cheese equal to the amount the company sells via its direct-to-consumer retail channel, will be directed to Food Banks in the Bay Area. …
