Watch out fried mozzarella sticks. Squeeky Cheese is out to knock you off the plate as the appetizer of choice in your local restaurant.
In June, York Valley Cheese Co. in Hallam began distributing Breaded Homestyle Squeeky Cheese curds. The bite-sized pieces of Wisconsin white cheddar cheese, which are fried, are proving popular.
At Touch of Italy, a restaurant in Hallam, the Squeeky Cheese has gotten "a great response" from customers and outsells the fried mozzarella sticks that are also on the menu, said Frank Romano, the restaurant's owner.
"It's a good product," Romano said. "They're doing well. In the future, I think we'll see more of them in a lot of restaurants."
