Grays says Bloomtastic! ™plants fall into three categories. They are either outstanding Hines’ proprietary genetics, new “stars” offered to Hines for propriety use by independent breeders, or “head-turning plants” that have been overlooked and fallen through the cracks.
And they all have the same characteristics: continuous color, lots of blooms, easy to grow and low maintenance.
“Bloomtastic! gives great plants the focus they deserve,” says Gray. “Our goal is to quickly and nimbly bring these plants to market with branded containers, great tags and consumer marketing to attract the attention they deserve.”
Annuals, perennials, vines, shrubs and tropicals all fit into the new line and are selected for superior performance both regionally and nationally. Plants are available in branded 4”, 8” and 3 gallon sizes.
From over eight newBambino™ Bougainvillea to striking new buddleia and new agapanthus, Lonicera and new Bahama Bay™ Hibiscus, the Bloomtastic! plant mix will be constantly evolving to keep it fresh and exciting.
“For example, the Bambino™ Bougainvillea are the result of extensive breeding to deliver plenty of color and profusions of blooms,” says Gray, “and they make excellent shrubs and are perfect for smaller gardens or containers. Just what today’s busy gardener demands.”

Agapanthus africanus ‘Summer Sky’ PPAF: This lovely plant boasts a prolific flowering nature, producing between 20-30 flowers from one stem! The attractive blue blooms set a striking contrast against the creamy/white and olive green variegated foliage. Best of all, this beauty can handle drought once established and still bloom.‘Summer Sky’ reaches about 15-18” tall and is an airy and attractive plant for containers and patio pots. Use as a container plant, in perennial or English gardens, mass plantings, low maintenance gardens. Deer resistant. Best in full sun, prefers sandy loam soil but will tolerate heavy soil. Provide regular watering until established. Zone 8-10.
Bambino ™ Bougainvillea: Eight varieties in the Bloomtastic! collection will dazzle with gorgeous and unique flower colors that stand out against various foliage patterns including variegated leaves. Compact and full, with some plants like Bambino™ ‘Lauren’ reaching from 4 ft to 5 ft tall, the dramatically variegated foliage contrasts against profusions of large clusters of flowers, spring through fall. The plants prefer full sun and well-drained soil. It makes an excellent shrub plant and is well- suited for smaller gardens and hedges, containers, baskets and medium size groundcovers. Zones 8-10.
Buddleia ‘Purple Splendor’ PPAF -This robust plant produces fragrant flowers that are borne on large, wide flower clusters. The heavy textured purple flowers with white eyes and yellow centers produce waves of spectacular blooms during the summer heat. ‘Purple Splendor’ has unique, heavily textured, dark green leaves that are egg-shaped with mint-like leaf margins. In the landscape, it reaches 5’ if pruned near ground level in the spring with a tight and dense habit and very sturdy stems and branches. Prefers full sun and regular watering in a well- draining soil. Best of all, it attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Perfect as a hedge, mass planting, or as a focal plant, perennial garden or cottage gardens. Zone 5-10.
Buddleia ‘Lavender Veil’ PPAF- Unlike standard Buddleias, ‘Lavender Veil’ is a compact grower, growing very low to the ground, reaching 1.5’ tall and no more than 3’ wide. Bearing abundant flowers, the continuous fragrant flushes of lavender blooms with white eyes thrill throughout the summer. The smooth, dark green leaves contrast against the lighter shade of green on the underside. A stand-out feature that sets it apart from other ‘dwarf’ varieties is that when grown in containers or hanging baskets, the abundant flowers will cascade over the edges. Prefers full sun and regular watering in a well- draining soil. Attracts butterflies and hummingbirds. Useful as a hanging basket, mass planting, low growing groundcover, rock garden, perennial garden, cottage gardens. Zone 5-10.
