Miami Beach, FL. – “Bright ‘Light’”, a new variety of a soft cream tulip, grown by The Sun Valley Group, was named for Cindy Hanauer, VP of Merchandising and Procurement with 1-800-Flowers, for her contributions to the floral industry, at the 25th edition of the International Floriculture Expo, North America’s leading floriculture trade event, in Miami Beach, FL.
Stan Pohmer, CEO of Pohmer Consulting Group (2011 honoree) and Bobbi Ecker Blatchford, AIFD, AAF, PFCI, (2010 honoree) announced the honor, lauding Ms. Hanauer for her contributions to the floral industry. “Cindy’s strength is in her leadership, always mentoring to those whom are honest and ethical, and to whom share in her passion for the floral business.” noted members of the 2012 selection committee. “She is as true to her supplier partners as she is to her customers. She knows that her life’s purpose is greater than herself. Cindy’s life is the embodiment of why we are here at IFE.”
Ms. Hanauer was nominated for this honor by her peers in the floral industry and selected from a pool of nominees to receive this honor by the International Floriculture Expo’s Flower Naming Selection Committee. Members of the selection committee include Bobbi Ecker Blatchford, Florapros, Christine Boldt, Association of Florida Flower Importers, Steve Daum, Floralife, Cindy Sulzman, HyVee and Tom Lavagetto, Floral Consulting Group.
‘Bright Light’ is owned by Rooyakkers, bred by Jan Ligthart, and grown by The Sun Valley Group in California. The flower-naming ceremony has become a tradition at the Expo; last year, a lily was named for Stan Pohmer; in 2010 a rose was named for Mrs. Blatchford.
