Monterey Bay Greenhouse Growers Open Their Glass Doors

On Saturday, the Monterey Bay Greenhouse Growers will open their doors to the general public for a free tour of their facilities. Among those participating in the 4th annual open house are Succulent Gardens-Castroville, McLellan Botanicals-Aromas, and Jacobs Farm, Four Winds Growers, California Pajarosa, Kitayama Brothers and California Floral Greens-Watsonville. The tour begins at 10 a.m. and continues to 4 p.m. A complimentay map is available at montereybayfarmtours.org.

Robin Stockwell of Castroville’s Succulent Gardens (2133 Elkhorn Road, Castroville) will display the immense succulent globe which was the centerpiece of this year’s San Francisco Garden and Flower Show held in March.

“The response from the local community to see the Globe,” Stockwell said, “was quite amazing. I know that folks who were not able to make it up to the garden show would want to know it will be on display and there is no charge to visit and see it.”

In addition to guided tours of its flower growing operations, California Pajarosa (133 Hughes Road, Watsonville) will host a book signing by Debra Prinzing during the open house. Debra Prinzing is a Seattle and Los Angeles-based Outdoor Living Expert and the author of six books, including “The 50 Mile Bouquet: Seasonal, Local and Sustainable Flowers” (2012) and “Stylish Sheds And Elegant Hideaways (2008).” She’s written numerous articles for major newspapers and gardening magazines. She specializes in interiors, architecture and landscapes.
