Rancho Tissue Technologies Expands Team

Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. – Rancho Tissue Technologies has expanded its team with the addition of Lee Charles Chaille as Production Manager.

“With tissue culture expertise and extensive plant development knowledge coupled with greenhouse growing experience, Lee is an all-around great asset for us,” says Owner and Founder Heather May.

Lee has served as lab manager and commercial producer for Hawaii Biotech Tissue Culture Center, where he explored commercial production of Jatropha for biofuels, developing cost-effective protocol. At the University of Hawaii at Manoa, he was a key member of the research and greenhouse management team. This included collaborating with renowned tissue culture specialist Dr. Kheng Cheah to establish the New Plant Distribution Center and develop new optimized culture media for Bamboo culture.

His research portfolio also includes establishing organogenic and embryogenic Bamboo explants, planning and developing tissue culture protocol for elite selections and using the RITA bioreactor system for cost effective dracaena culture development and production.

In addition, he was previously a valued member of the Rancho Tissue team with research and development and stock recording responsibilities. His career also includes time as a grower and production lead with Hawaiian Sunshine Nursery, as well as production experience with Novelty Greens Nursery and Prairie Creek Nursery and Landscaping.

He holds a master’s from the Department of Tropical Plants and Soil Sciences at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and a bachelor’s in agriculture from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.

As Production Manager, his duties encompass upholding and raising the company’s gold standard plant tissue culture capabilities, including quality control and management, production planning, lab scheduling and crop build-up.
