IFCO Partners With Forgotten Harvest In Fight Against Hunger

ATLANTA – IFCO SYSTEMS’ Fred Heptinstall, President and General Manager IFCO RPC Management Services NA, Hillary Femal, Director of Strategic Market Development and Susan Goodell, President and CEO of Forgotten Harvest, announced their new partnership at the opening of the 2011 Produce Marketing Association (PMA) Fresh Summit. IFCO is proud to support Forgotten Harvest, an organization that relieves hunger in the Detroit metropolitan community by rescuing surplus, prepared and perishable food and donating it to emergency food providers.

“IFCO will be providing Forgotten Harvest food rescue with Reusable Plastic Containers (RPCs) to use in their delivery system,” said Heptinstall. “IFCO is very proud of this new partnership with Forgotten Harvest and our commitment to supporting this and other food banks throughout the world.”

“Using IFCO RPCs will make a huge difference in the effort to feed local communities,“ said Ms. Goodell. “IFCO’s RPCs represent exactly the type of partnership we thrive on. By replacing corrugate boxes with RPCs, we will be able to provide better produce to our clients, improve our distribution, and reduce waste in the process.“

Forgotten Harvest was formed in 1990 to fight two problems: hunger and waste. By  collecting surplus prepared and perishable food from more than 450 sources, including grocery stores, fruit and vegetable markets, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food, over 23 million pounds in 2010 alone, is delivered free-of-charge to over 200 emergency food providers in the Metro Detroit area. Forgotten Harvest is a member of the Feeding America network, the nation's
leading domestic hunger-relief charity.

As the market leader with over 125 million containers in circulation worldwide, IFCO has perfected the reusable plastic container (RPC) model. IFCO handles all container logistics, from manufacturing to cleaning to re-entry into the supply chain. After retail use, IFCO RPCs are folded, collected, and shipped back to our service facilities, where they are sanitized and prepared for re-use. IFCO Partners with Forgotten Harvest in Fight Against
