Calgary Restaurants Embrace Sustainable Seafood Movement, Program Continues To Grow

The pale pink tuna — lightly seared, topped with a red sprinkle of Marash chilies and set atop a bed of chickpea puree, caponata and salsa verde — is enough to get mouths watering.

The small circular logo that sits next to the item on Catch’s newly revamped menu is enough to make a diner feel even better about the choice.

That small symbol of a fish indicates the pole-caught yellowfin tuna meets the standards set by Ocean Wise, a program designed to help consumers make sustainable seafood choices.

Both Catch and the Oyster Bar now only serve Ocean Wise-approved fish and shellfish — a move that means all the seafood items are from well-managed stocks with limited habitat destruction and bycatch.
