Fresh Thyme Farmers Market Chain Plans Dayton, OH Stores

A specialty grocery store is looking to expand into the Dayton market with two or three stores in the next few years.

Fresh Thyme Farmers Market, a Phoenix-based grocery chain specializing in produce and organic meats, plans to open 48 stores in six years in the Midwest, and it has targeted Dayton for one of its first stores.

The chain’s first store will open in a suburb of Chicago in January, but it has an aggressive growth plan. Eric Abroms, a principal with OnSite Retail Group in Cincinnati, and the broker representing Fresh Thyme in Dayton and Cincinnati, said the chain is looking to open its first Dayton location in 2014, and follow it with one or two more locations throughout the Dayton region and four to six stores in Cincinnati.

The store is open to moving into build-to-suit spaces or vacant former retail sites, and looks for locations between 26,000 square feet and 28,000 square feet.
