Target Building Food Distribution Center In Texas

Target Corp. said it will take until spring 2013 to complete a food distribution center that's being built in Denton to expand capacity as the retailer converts more of its general merchandise stores to include groceries.

The 360,000-square-foot facility will replace a food distribution center that Target leases off Interstate 35W and Loop 820 in Fort Worth. The new center will handle twice the capacity of the Fort Worth location and serve more than 235 stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, Kansas, Missouri, Mississippi and Tennessee.

The Denton center, 3952 Corbin Road, on the west side of I-35W and south of the University of North Texas, will feature an extensive robotics system that will make restocking stores more efficient, Target spokesman Eddie Baeb said.

The robotics will pull products and stack pallets so that they're in the order of the aisles when they arrive at stores, making it easier and faster for employees to restock shelves, he said.
