Food is fuel for the brain, and in honor of Brain Health Month, the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) is inspiring consumers to grab more boosts of blue in June. Eating fresh or frozen blueberries each day within an overall healthy diet and lifestyle is a smart choice that can add up to support brain health. As part of its national plan to promote the benefits of blueberries, USHBC is sharing a range of informative and enticing resources, including blueberry recipes, nutrition information and health research.

IBO Announces Poland as Host Country for 2023 Summit and Solidarity With Ukrainian Blueberry Growers

The International Blueberry Organization (IBO) has announced that the forthcoming IBO Summit will take place in Lublin, Poland from 3-5 July, 2023. The IBO hopes to support the growth of a sector which was worth US$2.1 billion in 2019, according to the USDA, while at the same time highlighting Ukraine’s blueberry industry in a show of solidarity.

USHBC and NABC Add New Director of Business Intelligence

Joe Vargas has been hired as the director of business intelligence for the U.S. Highbush Blueberry Council (USHBC) and North American Blueberry Council (NABC). In this newly created role, Vargas is responsible for developing and leading a best-in-class data and insights program for the blueberry industry. 

Blueberries and Brain Health

A new research study published in Nutrients finds that blueberries have cognitive benefits. More specifically, the equivalent of a half cup of fresh blueberries per day, consumed as freeze-dried blueberry powder, was found to help middle-aged individuals against cognitive decline when implemented early in at-risk individuals.1
