Flowers Foods has appointed Craig S. Parr to the newly created position of senior vice president of finance and chief risk officer. Parr comes to Flowers from The Andersons, Inc., where he served as vice president of risk management and food ingredient supply.

All Things Baking, which took place in Houston, Texas September 9 through September 11, lived up to its tagline as “All the things you’ve ever wanted in a baking show.” Thousands of attendees took advantage of the education, hands-on demonstrations, bakery tours and the latest innovations from leading vendors. Created to serve as the industry’s annual marketplace, meeting place and educational forum during the 2-year gap in the IBIE rotation, the show was timed perfectly for attendees. Participants hailed from all across the United States and 27 countries including Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Japan, Italy, Guatemala and Australia.

Sticky Toffee Pudding Co. Making An Impression Nationwide

Tracy Claros moved to Austin in 2003 to start a dessert company, having reasoned the United Kingdom’s market was overcrowded, while the U.S.’s had little exposure to British desserts. She launched The Sticky Toffee Pudding Co., based on the British dessert classic, in 2004, but it hasn’t been easy. She hadn’t reckoned on U.S. demand for more sophisticated chilled deserts being almost non-existent compared to the U.K. and the rest of Europe.

ABA Urges Congress To Support Sugar Reform

ABA members Hayden Wands with Bimbo Bakeries USA, Mark Worthey with Flowers Foods, and Steve Stocksdale with Krispy Kreme, visited with members of Congress and their staff last week to discuss the Farm Bill and urge reform of the current U.S. sugar program.  Current U.S. sugar policy restricts supplies by limiting imports, with the U.S. Department of Commerce estimating that over 125,000 food manufacturing jobs were lost between 1997 and 2010 due to the impact of the sugar program.
