Ongoing increases in bacon use by fast-food and casual dining restaurants come as grocery stores expect a seasonal pickup in demand in the months ahead. Consumers tend to make more bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwiches during the summer months. The pork product also continues to remain a breakfast staple.

Goldn Plump Completes $25M Expansion

Goldn Plump recently completed expanding its production facility by 22,000 square feet. The facility, purchased in 1993 by Goldn Plump, finished its latest expansion at a cost of $25.4 million, along with $8.9 million for more breeder and grower barns in the area.

Sodium Reduced In Prairiefresh Prime Brand Pork Items

Seaboard Foods announced today it has reduced sodium in its PrairieFresh Prime brand fresh pork products. The sodium content for a 4-ounce serving of unseasoned PrairieFresh Prime pork loin was lowered to 280 milligrams (mg) a 26 percent sodium reduction while maintaining the unique eating experience created by the proprietary PrairieFresh Prime process.

Maryland Raised Beef, Rabbit & Lamb, Now Available

Under a new program, the Southern Maryland Meats Program, consumers will now have the opportunity to purchase meat, including beef, lamb, and rabbit, grown in five Maryland counties (Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, Prince Georges and St. Marys).
