Consumers, Food Safety Advocates Debate Proposal To Legalize Raw Milk Sales In NJ

Sometimes, all Liberty Township resident Bill Vonder Haar needs for lunch is a tall glass of raw milk.

For about three years, Vonder Haar, his wife and children drank what he calls a delicious and healthy beverage. Vonder Haar frequently drives the three-hour round trip to retrieve the nonpasteurized drink from a Pennsylvania farm.

Now Vonder Haar is hoping state legislators accept a proposal to legalize raw milk sales in the Garden State.

"I really believe in it," said Vonder Haar. Of the taste of raw milk, he said: "It packs a lot of punch."
