British Cheese Week, Sept. 25 Thru Oct. 3, 2010

The British love their cheese and they love British cheese the best so we’re celebrating British Cheese with a week of events across the country starting with the announcement at the Awards dinner in Cardiff on Friday 24th of this year’s winners. Results will be posted here. A shortlist of finalists is attached.

On Saturday morning the gates open to Cardiff Castle and the start of the Great British Cheese Festival while across the nation retailers, restaurants and cheesemakers have created their own individual events and tastings to form a range of events. Plus the week also heralds the launch of two major initiatives in the British cheesemaking world

Firstly award winning Welsh cheesemakers across the Teifi Valley are launching the Teifi Valley Cheese Producers to promote their cheeses and their region ‘the Loire Valley’ of Welsh Cheesemaking to the World.

Then the launch of PATCH will be announced. A campaign designed to Protect the authentic taste of British cheddar this initiative, driven by award winning makers of Britain’s favourite cheese, is designed to protect the authenticity of great British cheddar.

Meanwhile British Cheese supremo Juliet Harbutt, will be holding 3 Masterclasses in the Cotswolds, her local area. At Added Ingredients, Abingdon on Tuesday 28th September, The Cotswold Food Store, near Moreton in Marsh on Thursday 30th September and The Cafe de-la Poste, Chadlington Friday 1st October.

National retailers including Marks & Spencer, TESCO, Booths and ASDA will be holding special British Cheese promotions and events, highlighting their medal and award winners, as will independent retailers including most of the finalists in the Best New retailer Competition as far afield as The Corner House Deli in Angus, The Old Deli Theatre in Nottinghamshire, Noel Chadwick’s Emporium, Lancashire and increasingly popular on-line cheese retailer PONG Cheese.

Restaurant hotels across the land will also be supporting British Cheese Week and include a ‘French versus British’ tasting at The Coastguard in Kent. Other participants include London’s flagship Dorchester hotel and Marriot St Pierre Hotel in Gwent.
