Enough new perennial flowers are introduced every year that everyone usually has a different favorite.
It's rare when most everyone zeroes in on just one newcomer and says, "This is the best."
That's the case this year with coreopsis "Big Bang Mercury Rising," a tireless new perennial that's likely to become a standard in central-Pennsylvania landscapes.
"I see a lot of new introductions, but none quite hit me the way Mercury Rising does," said Fred McCoy, perennial grower for Ashcombe Farm and Greenhouses (www.ashcombe.com). "The striking wine-red blossoms on hardy, compact plants keep blooming all summer long."
