7,067 Families Take The Power Your Lunchbox Pledge By Produce For Kids

ORLANDO, Fla. – The new Power Your Lunchbox Pledge by Produce for Kids launched Aug. 11 and ran through Sept. 15 and encouraged families to pack healthier lunchboxes this back-to-school season. During the program, 7,067 families took the pledge to pack a healthier lunchbox at poweryourlunchbox.com.

Produce for Kids’ partners supporting Power Your Lunchbox Pledge included AMC Direct South African Summer Citrus, Define Bottle™, GROW by Organics Unlimited, Laptop Lunches® Bento-ware and Pero Family Farms®. For every pledge that families or individuals took, participating produce companies made a donation to DonorsChoose.org to fund health and wellness classroom projects around the country.

The program garnered over 20 million social media impressions and 15 million media impressions with a media value of $600,000. The website, poweryourlunchbox.com, housed the pledge to pack healthier lunchboxes; RD-approved, kid-friendly lunchbox ideas and tips; and coupons from companies supporting the program.

“As a parent of two boys, I can vouch for the challenges parents face packing a healthy lunchbox that their kids will actually eat. The Power Your Lunchbox program was designed to provide parents with resources to overcome this hurdle,” said Trish James, vice president, Produce for Kids. “We partnered with likeminded companies who were able to support the program and help us raise funds to educate kids in the classroom about making healthier food choices.”

Twitter fans used #PowerYourLunchbox hashtag a total of 5,867 times to show off their healthy lunchboxes throughout the program. Weekly prizes were awarded to parents showing off healthy lunchboxes through Instagram and Twitter and included bento boxes, fruit-infusing water bottles, grocery store gift cards and more.

Products from partner companies were featured in RD-approved lunchbox recipe ideas on poweryourlunchbox.com, promoted regularly throughout the program to more than 45,000 Produce for Kids social media fans and followers and included in the Produce for Kids consumer Produce Chat e-newsletter and in blogger and media outreach. Additionally, Produce for Kids and partnering companies shared lunchbox tips during a #PowerYourLunchbox Twitter party on August 20.

Produce for Kids intends to run the Power Your Lunchbox program again during the 2015 back-to-school season. Companies interested in participating in the program should email Mallory@produceforkids.com.
