Northwest Indiana Floriculture Association Co-Sponsoring Industry Educational Program

MICHIGAN CITY – Purdue University Cooperative Extension Service and the Northwest Indiana Floriculture Association will co-sponsor an educational program for people in the plant nursery, greenhouse and retail garden center businesses from 5:30 to 8 p.m. June 21 at Brincka-Cross Gardens, 427 E. Furness Road.

The program will begin with a tour of the Brincka-Cross Gardens, led by Matt Brown, horticulturalist for Porter County Parks and Recreation. Highlights of the gardens include hundreds of types of hostas and daffodils, numerous daylily varieties, and more than two dozen varieties of crab apples and forsythia.

In addition to the gardens, the property includes a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired house.

After the tour, James Potthoff, district forester for Kankakee Fish and Wildlife Area, will teach about plants that can become invasive and destroy natural habitats in the region.
