New Director of Grower Relationships Making Major Impact at Maglio Companies McAllen Facility

Over the past 6 months, Maglio Companies, a leading importer, processor and distributor of fresh produce, has continued to upgrade and introduce new services through talented leadership at their McAllen, Texas operation. The first order of business was to hire a produce veteran with over 20 years of experience in sourcing, sales, operations and brokerage. As the Director of Grower Relationships and Sourcing, Eric Schriever is just hitting his stride in McAllen. “The produce business has continued to evolve over the years,” explained Schriever. “Mexico is producing more and more top-quality produce and it makes sense to be at the source. At least two to three growers per week come in for direct face-to-face meetings allowing us to build programs around each of their crop’s production cycles and take advantage of their harvest fluctuations, all while planning ahead for what they will be growing in the future.”

Leading teams of produce professionals specializing in everything from demand planning, sales, production scheduling, safety awareness and global supply is Schriever’s expertise and these skills are being put to use at Maglio as he celebrates his 20th year in the produce business. “It has been a great career so far,” he commented. “I started straight out of college and immediately loved this business. I really enjoy working with customers, growers and transportation providers to put all of the various puzzle pieces together. I can’t think of anything in the world that I would rather be doing than working in the produce business.”

Because Maglio McAllen provides a direct link between growers of fresh fruits and vegetables and retail, food service and industrial consumers, the McAllen team focuses primarily on products imported from Mexico or grown in South Texas so that they can deliver straight from the field to each of their customers, providing the freshest products available.

The team in McAllen isn’t just limited to Mexico or Texas—they source globally to find the best deals and best quality no matter where it’s grown. “Customers call us daily to keep their supply chain full,” said Schriever. “When one area gets hit hard with weather or is limited in availability, they call our team because they know from a global standpoint, we can find them a source for the product they need.”

For several years Maglio McAllen has been offering cold storage solutions and cross docking, in addition to procurement and private label packing. With Maglio’s three other strategically located facilities across the US, (Minneapolis, Boston and headquarters in Milwaukee) delivery to the Midwest and the North East is easily attainable. In addition, Maglio has built a strong transportation fleet from McAllen and there isn’t a place in the continental US that is out of the delivery area.

“Through our facility in McAllen we can build loads to anywhere within the United States,” said Schriever. “We can handle direct-to-store delivery with pallets built for each drop or direct from farm to wholesale—it’s all in our reach.”

Maglio Companies has been offering the best produce with conscientious quality and service since 1902. The company provides innovative solutions to meet customer’s unique needs.
