Pink is the New Yellow for Chiquita Bananas in October

Fort Lauderdale, FL – During National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Chiquita will maintain its role as a Guardian Against Cancer for The American Cancer Society® (ACS) by participating in the ACS national on-line donation challenge, “Get Ben On Board.” This initiative will add $100 to every $500 donation made online to ACS, with funds raised supporting breast cancer patients. Additionally, the brand is showing its support for the third year in a row by turning the brand’s iconic Blue Sticker pink to match the campaign’s Pink Ribbon symbol, the international symbol for breast cancer awareness. Throughout the month of October, 200 million Pink Stickers will be distributed worldwide in support of this important cause.

Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an annual global health campaign organized by breast cancer charities around the world. The Chiquita Pink Sticker provides a unique chance for the brand to support this vital work globally, increasing awareness of the disease as well as raising funds for research into its cause, prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure. The importance of such initiatives can be seen in falling death rates, thanks to earlier discovery of the disease through early screenings and raised awareness.

“Chiquita feels particularly dedicated to supporting breast cancer awareness because our very own ambassador – Miss Chiquita, the first lady of fruit – is a woman,” said Jamie Postell, Director of Sales North America. “Breast cancer is currently the most common cancer among women. As the world’s leading banana company, we recognize our responsibility to act as a ‘Good Neighbor’ and show our support.”

In addition to Chiquita bananas sporting a pink makeover in the month of October, the company and ACS are teaming up to create five healthy recipes including a Quinoa Breakfast Bowl, Stir Fry with Shrimp, Budwig Creme, Lunch Toast and an Iced Chai Latte. These recipes align with the ACS nutrition guidelines, which recommend a diet that emphasizes fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, and limits red and processed meat, to help reduce the risk of cancer.  This partnership offers simple recipes for people looking for healthier breakfast and snack ideas.
