Urban Processing Buyer Mariani Committed To Wisconsin Rapids

The new owners of a Wisconsin Rapids cranberry processing plant want to work with the facility's existing employees and local growers to strengthen their products and the industry.

Officials at Mariani Packing Co. of Vacaville, Calif., which bought Urban Processing about a month ago, recognize the increasing value of Wood County's largest fruit crop, said Christopher Mariani, who will oversee the Wisconsin Rapids plant as a company partner and board member.

"We were looking for a good company to buy, and they were looking for a good company to buy them," Mariani said Friday via telephone. "We're both really happy with the transaction."

Although company officials would not reveal the purchase price, it was significant, said Natalie Mariani, Christopher Mariani's sister, fellow board member and company spokeswoman.
