Stewart's Shops Corp. will spend up to $50 million this year to construct 17 stores across upstate New York and Vermont.

The family- and employee-owned convenience store chain will start work on six stores in the next four weeks. A total of 15 existing stores will be rebuilt or renovated. Stewart's will also construct stores in two new locations in upstate New York — Rome in Oneida County and Mount Hope in Orange County.
