IDFA Launches Website To Help Fight Milk Crate Losses
by International Dairy Foods Association

Milk companies spend approximately $100 million annually to replace stolen plastic milk crates. As part of an initiative to help member companies reduce these losses, IDFA recently launched, an edgy Web site designed to raise awareness among consumers about the sustainable value of milk crates. The site also shares information within the industry on how to fight illegal scrap recycling enterprises.

"We wanted a place where members could go to find information on how to educate members of their community about the financial and economic costs associated with plastic milk crate theft," said Clay Detlefsen, IDFA vice president for regulatory affairs and counsel.

The site provides data on the amount of carbon emissions that can be decreased by reducing theft. It also details industry efforts that have increased enforcement of existing laws and state initiatives where additional legislation was required for enforcement.

For more information on this initiative, contact Detlefsen at or (202) 220-3554.
