First American Tulip Day A Big Hit
by iBulb

The American Tulip Day held in San Francisco on Saturday, March 3 was a huge success. This unique event that turned Union Square into an ocean of flowers for a day was visited by 5,000 people and attracted a lot of attention.

Picking tulips for free
On the first Saturday of March, the first cutting garden full of 100,000 tulips was made available in the heart of San Francisco. The big job of creating this gigantic tulip garden at Union Square began at the crack of dawn: 7:00 a.m. Later, at 1:00 p.m., the event was officially opened by Henk Westerhof, the chairman of Anthos. Everyone could hardly wait to enter the tulip garden and pick a free bunch of tulips. Within three hours they were all picked.

Billions of tulips
The American Tulip Day was organized to increase Americans’ familiarity with Dutch tulip bulbs and to encourage the sale of cut tulips produced in America. The Netherlands produces billions of tulip bulbs in more than 3,000 varieties every year. And the largest percentage of these tulip bulbs - around half a billion a year - are exported to America. There, these locally produced tulips brighten up the homes of many Americans during the tulip season.

International Women’s Day
Don’t forget that next Saturday is International Women’s Day - the perfect occasion to delight someone with a wonderful bunch of tulips.
