   Dallas Fresh Food Association Welcomes PMA's Cathy Burns As August Speaker

DALLAS – The Dallas Fresh Food Association (DFFA) is excited to welcome Produce Marketing Association’s Cathy Burns as a guest speaker at its August 29 luncheon, sponsored by Wonderful Citrus, to continue to take steps toward increasing consumption and careers in fresh food in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

Burns will address various areas of opportunity to create consumer demand, including how trends impacting foodservice, global retail, and technology can positively impact the industry as a whole, as well as DFFA’s approach to community outreach. With more than 30 years’ experience in fresh produce, and a proven track record for success leading associations and community outreach programs, Burns brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the DFFA membership.

“I love what the DFFA is doing to reach local community members to encourage more fruit and vegetable consumption, while emphasizing opportunities for careers in the fresh food space,” said Cathy Burns, CEO of Produce Marketing Association. “I’m honored to speak to this group of passionate leaders, and look forward to sharing ideas and insights to help this group to go out and create positive change in North Texas.”

Burns joins the association’s lineup of key industry influencer speakers including United Fresh’s Tom Stenzel, who spoke to the group at its April 4 luncheon, sponsored by Freightflow. During this luncheon, Stenzel touched on legislation and key insights regarding shopper behaviors and how they compare to 10+ years ago, which spurred the group’s first committee planning meeting in June. It was there that sub-committees, focused on the association’s key mission areas of “consumption” and “careers,” met to determine goals for local events, in-school activities, and job training. 

“Cathy is a shining example of what passion, drive, and intentionality look like in this industry, and we could not be more grateful for her insights this month,” said Beth Keeton, Marketing Chair for the Dallas Fresh Food Association. “As our committees continue to grow and bring new ideas to the table for community activation, people like Cathy and Tom have been instrumental in giving us the tools we need to be strategic and make the biggest impact.”
